Gallery - Project Footprint
The Footprint is the first straw bale building in Cumbria, and the first for the National Trust.
Thanks to the choice of alternative building materials such as straw walls, used car tyre foundations, sheep's wool insulation, timber frames, floors and walkways, an oak shingle roof, this beautiful and inspiring building has a low environmental impact.
The National Trust used a conventional building company (lambert-gill from Carlisle) for the majority of the construction and overseeing the process. Opportunities for skills development, training and hands on involvement were created through practical courses, most of which were led by amazonails.
The most complete record of the Footprint Project construction is the time-lapse movie that we assembled from some of the 43,000+ images shot from the dedicated camera overlooking the site.
